New talk from 3 weeks ago about the âGreat Script Restorationâ, which is basically the BTC guys version of VM Limits & BigInts CHIP (obviously sans any timeline or likelihood of ever being implemented rather than just to gaslight & bikeshed the devs). But it gives some idea of where the BTC guys are at.
To be honest, it just seems like a sloppy, less refined version of the BCH work. Iâm not an expert or with enough free time to do a detailed breakdown, but from what I gathered:
- Their budgeting system seems less elegant
- Theyâre more pessimistic about hardware improvements (as ever)
- Theyâre dreaming to have the kind of tests that we already have
- Theyâre only dealing with a more limited set of OP_codes.
- They havenât figured out how to go to big big (unlimited) ints
- Thereâs loads of pre-gaslighting at the end about âWhat else can we mix into this upgrade?â which will be an excuse to delay it forever
etc.
But an interesting insight into where our BTC confused cousins are at and worth keeping in mind if youâre chatting to any cash-curious devs.
My prediction: BTC = No meaningful movement on this throughout 2025, the soup of various other upgrades they want to do will take priority or confuse discussion and nothing is going to get deployed anyway. BCH = ships in May & is deep on the next upgrade discussion & lock in.
For contract developers who want to start experimenting/building with the new VM Limits on chipnet, we published a v0.11.0-next.0
release that enables using CashScript with the new VM limits on chipnet, leading up to the May 2025 upgrade.
