I don’t think we have a thread for keeping up to date with generally interesting ideas or topics going around in the industry, good technical talks and so on? So here’s my location for cross pollination.
I was at DashCon/CommonS3nse this last week, and from what I can see Dash is currently our closest technical competitor. Here’s the overview talk of only 7 minutes for what Dash is working on in 2026 & 2027. Evolution is their “idea”, and Platform is the implementation which is their L2 for smart contracts & data availability, kinda like a cross between SmartBCH & Google Drive.
Some notes from me:
- Faster block times and better instant transactions is already absolute table stakes, not even worth mentioning, they’ve had it for years. So have LTC, ZEC, XMR etc.
- They are currently working on & rolling out ZEC style Orchard shielded transactions. That is still new & fresh, but is also rapidly becoming table stakes for our section of the industry. Good that BCH is working on this too, and we must continue that, but as of now I think we’re behind the pace on this point.
- Data availability is an interesting topic that they’re working hard on. For BCH the answer might be IPFS or NOSTR or something else coordinated via BCMR or who knows what, but it’s an area we need to take seriously.
- They don’t have anything equivalent to XO or templates that I can see planned. I do feel that’s one of BCH’s current edges, if we can deliver it.
- They’re behind a little bit on smart contracts & tokens, but they’re catching up rapidly. They’ll have good stuff within a year.
More detailed talks that I also really enjoyed.
